An exhibition on the theme of fire opened on April 10, 2018 at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris. Combining technical and scientific approaches to discovery, the exhibition develops three main axes: taming fire, understanding fire, and fighting fires.
The second part deals with the knowledge and understanding of fire, its scientific and industrial control. This part of the exhibition explains in particular what conditions are necessary for a fire to start and by that fact to understand the behavior of the flames. Fire, scientifically known as combustion, is a chemical reaction between two ingredients: a material (the fuel), oxygen in the air (the oxidizer), an energy supply used as a trigger. Any combustion gives off energy in the form of heat. Part of this energy keeps the reaction going. Understanding these phenomena opens the way to the industrial revolution. This is the basis of Woodenha Industries’ profession which has made improving the performance of firewood one of its main industrial challenges.
